Contribute

There are two ways to submit to Kindergarten: apply to be a regular contributor or submit a completed piece via email.

Interested in becoming a regular contributor?

We are currently accepting applications for regular contributors in all of our categories (see below). We ask applicants to pick a primary category, but they are more than welcome to submit work in other categories.

Contributors are expected to contribute at least once per monthly issue. We also expect contributors to be active on Discord, respond to editors’ edits and feedback, and meet deadlines. We can be flexible but we need communication!

Currently, these are volunteer positions with no monetary compensation. We are working to get funding via grants and fundraising to hopefully compensate writers in the future 🙂 Internship credit for your work with Kindergarten can be requested, but the editors will review how long you’ve written for Kindergarten and how often you have contributed. Additional responsibilities can be assigned to meet internship requirements and create a fulfilling experience.

Want to submit your work to Kindergarten?

If you cannot commit to being a contributor, you are more than welcome to submit an individual piece that correlates with our monthly theme. As a small and self-funded publication, all submissions to Kindergarten are volunteer-based. We appreciate all of the work shared with us and hope to continue to grow so we can better compensate contributors.

What to submit

Kindergarten accepts essays, fiction, poetry, book/movie reviews, artwork, photography, etc. that fit under the current theme.

  • To be posted on the site, all work submitted must be unpublished.
  • Text files should be PDF, DOC, or Google Docs, visual files should be JPEG or PNG.
  • For written works, we have a 2,000-word limit.
  • Photos and visual art must be high quality, at least 72 DPI.
  • All works must be submitted with a title.
  • Visual works require an artist statement, at least a paragraph long.
  • All written submissions, besides poetry, are subject to edits for clarity.

How to submit

If you have writing or photos that go with our theme, send us an email with your first and last name and a small explanation of your work.

Email submissions to: submit@kindergartenmag.com, with the subject being the title of your submission.
